2022/2023
We applied and were successful in getting our ‘Biodiversity Flag’ for the school.
Congratulations to all the Green Schools Team for their hard work with this achievement.
2020/2021
This year has seen a change in the operation and focus of schools across the country. The Green Committee has also focussed on new appropriate initiatives.
We supported enthusiastic parents who championed and organised the launch of a ‘Walking Bus’ initiative for the school.
We supported submissions to the local council for safer travel routes to the Harold School to encourage children to walk or cycle.
We championed and supported the participation of the Harold School in World Car Free Day, promoting the environmental and health benefits of active travel.
2019/2020
The establishment of a ‘Green Monitor’ programme in the classroom, whereby children took responsibility for saving energy, by for example switching off lights and smartboards when leaving the classroom at break times, reducing waste and encouraging behaviour such as appropriate waste segregation for recycling
The Green Committee led a Global Climate March of children from the Harold School to Dun Laoghaire County Council offices, showing solidarity with children across the world demanding action on climate chaos. Children created their own banners and made their voices heard.
The children attended the Young Environmentalist Awards in Dublin and were inspired by other young people who have raised environmental awareness in this country.
The Committee promoted reduced waste initiatives at the Harold School Christmas Fair, for example by reducing the need for disposable coffee cups with the use of reusables.
The children on the Committee raised awareness and promoted ideas for a Green Christmas with a stall at the Christmas Fair.
